I have been “doing photography” since I was a child. It has taken on a special
significance in my life since retirement from the IT industry nearly a decade ago. As the work I am submitting for this exhibition illustrates, I have a developing interest in
abstraction, which I achieve by photographing commonplace scenes and then, in
software, removing detail, adding distortion, interposing unexpected elements or other techniques.
I photograph to remember, to know and love the world, to express the inexpressible.
Photography, for me, is not a business, profession or hobby—it is an obsession. To borrow the words of Henry David Thoreau, “Many [people] go fishing all of their lives without knowing it is not fish they are after.”
