Collage of artists original photo and painting
12" x 12" on canvas in wood frame
I painted my first cows early in my career, while I was teaching high school art in rural Massachusetts. The interplay and patterning of black and white that I observed in the mid-1970s became an often revisited theme. I currently paint in studios in Accord and New York city, and my work reflects both the urban and rural experiences. I paint primarily in oil, and in recent years have been integrating painted images with those of digital technology. My photo collage of an ageless artist studio, Align Through Time: The Painted Muse, The Pixelated Views, was exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery during 2009–2010. Since 1988 I have been Professor of Art at Bergen Community College, Paramus, New Jersey.
