“Looking Forward to Bees and Flowers” is simultaneously a celebration of flowers and bees and a lament about the decline in the number of pollinators I’ve witnessed in my lifetime. Thirty five years ago our yard was filled with multiple types of bees, wasps and butterflies. We’re lucky to see one monarch a season or half a dozen bees on the white clover planted in our lawn.
Instead of burning old paintings and prints from a studio purge, I started taking them apart. The colors and flowing brushstrokes in pieces of my watercolors complemented strong lines of original prints. Still life and figures, landscapes and floral studies were transformed into the abstracted flora and fauna seen here.
Collage lets me choose bits and pieces of past creations and give them new life, reimagined.
