“My earliest memories of art were at our dining room table watching my father paint. As a child I would ride the bus to weekly art classes at the Erie Art Museum. I loved to sit on the bluffs overlooking Presque Isle Bay doing childish landscapes. After nearly forty years of never picking up a brush to paint, those memories were rekindled when I started to do landscapes again. The images of trees, water, and sky still influence my work today.
On a whim, I took a Saturday afternoon watercolor class since my work leans toward an impressionist style. I love the flow, looseness, and luminosity of watercolor. I may have a definite notion of how I want my painting to look, but when I let the colors play with the water I get very different and surprising results. Because I tend to paint in this fashion, I simply let my imagination take hold and my paintings become a place that just might be.”
