Artists handmade/hand dyed paper collage

5” x 7” framed in blonde wood to 11” x 14”

For the past few years, I have embraced the creative practice of papermaking and indigo dying. The technique is inspired by the Japanese method of dying cloth called Shibori. For my paper, I use a mix of kozo, abaca, and cotton fibers. The sheets are then either folded, wrapped, tied or clamped. A vat of indigo dye is prepared and the paper wraps are dipped slowly in to the vat. Controlling how the paper absorbs the dye is essential. While working on a large project this year, I have many lovely remnant bits of delicately dyed paper, perfect for collaging. These pieces are a result of that collaging.
