I am looking for the gesture that both directs and creates its own momentum. The movement of all living things can be abstracted into lines and patterns where rhythm and image sometimes emerge. I imagine the path of my daily walk: over and over; it builds a heavy line until I feel the urge to break off and explore another street or an opposing direction. Each excursion adds to the layers of lines, colors, and images. Often, my mind behaves in the same way: thoughts travel the same familiar routes until a memory or an observation or a conversation redirects me into a new opening and maybe a deeper understanding of life and my time in it.
