Monotype on paper
16" x 20" matted in white and framed in black metal to 22" x 28"
My sensitivity of the visual realm emerged in childhood, but it was my still early years at the renowned High School of Music and Art (NYC) that deepened that journey. I continued to pursue painting/drawing/ceramics/collage over many of the following years. Along the way I discovered graphic design, returning to college and earned my BFA in Graphic Design with high honors. I went on to work for many years with some of the most influential designers in San Francisco, before opening my own office in Woodstock, NY in 1989 which continues to date.
In 2017, I discovered monotype printmaking (thanks to Milton Glaser), and fell in love. I found a new freedom in printmaking. I’ve continued to have an intense, active, and deepening relationship with this form, which I adore. I approach each monotype plate as an improvisation — I meet the ‘canvas’ (acrylic plate) with trust and curiosity and then see where it takes me.
Susanna Ronner is the principal of Susanna Ronner Graphic Design. After many years as an artist, I shifted my interest to graphic design, receiving a BFA in Graphic Design at the University if Illinois, with high honors, and single recipient of 'Outstanding Senior in Graphic Design'. After graduating, I went on to San Francisco to work for many years alongside the some of the most highly respected, and internationally renowned graphic designers. I opened my own office in 1989 in Woodstock, NY. In 2017, I returned to my own personal art making with monotype printmaking. It's continued to be a love affair with the medium, the ink, the press. I'm in the studio weekly since then, at the beautiful Woodstock School of Art, propelled with an intense creative passion. Thrilled for the journey.
