For years my work has focused on representing acute details of my everyday life. Past work combines collaged found materials with painted imagery, collected or photographed within the course of my daily routines. In a sense I was creating personal journals of particularly mundane aspects of my life. With an interest in elevating the banal and celebrating routine, several bodies of work formed.
With increased opportunity to travel I have begun creating “Wanderlust” projects. Using the sensibilities learned from representing my life I have begun to document the peculiarities of daily life in other countries. I hope for my deep feeling of wanderlust to manifest as a celebration of the diversity of the collective mundane.
In Wanderlust: From Prague to Belgrade I have used ephemeral material I gathered while traveling. Materials include cigarette packaging, magazines, art gallery brochures, news papers etc. The collages are coated in a heavy layer of acrylic gel medium, to create distance between layers. The top layer are paintings of graffiti, rendered from photographic reference, that I took during my travels.
