ARTIST BIOGRAPHY & STATEMENT
I became a photographer accidentally. Growing up, as a newspaper delivery boy with my newspaper bag and my camera, I bicycled through the pre-dawn hours, delivering the news of the world to about 100 families in my very small, rural town. Along the way I photographed the people, places, and things that intrigued my curiosity.
A graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts (still photography, motion picture production, and stage lighting), my work today is fine photography, corporate communications, documentary films, and advertising. I am also a qualitative consumer ethnographer.
Published in local media and shown in regional venues: Puffin Foundation Cultural Center, Kingston’s Shirt Factory Gallery, Intima Gallery Saugerties, Woodstock Artists Association Museum, Emerge Gallery, The Wired Gallery.
Recent/upcoming: Fall 2016 curated/participated in “Getting Closer: an intimate landscape” Wired Gallery. Upcoming participation in “Exit 20”” at Emerge Gallery and Griffin Museum’s “Aviary” curated by Paula Tognarelli.
HERE IS MY WALDEN is a portfolio of new work, begun in early autumn 2016 as the political and social grounds began to swell and the shifting sands of private and public dialog became heightened and loud. Impossible to ignore, I sought a place for quiet, neutral self-reflection – politically, emotionally, psychologically – to recover my voice, find balance and heal in an abruptly altered, mis-shapen outside world.
I went into nature alone and in the reflections of a nearby natural swimming hole, I discovered my Walden. This work is ongoing in still and moving images. Images produced in camera, not Photoshop.
