Gretchen Nau is a Graphic Designer who was raised, and is still living, in Saugerties, NY, her favorite town. "Target Practice" was created early in her career as an artist as an experiment in mixed media. She was heavily influenced by pop art, namely Andy Warhol and the graphic design of the Bauhaus. The silhouette repeated in the painting is taken from a photograph she took of her friend aiming her rifle. Even if the viewer cannot tell the figure is that of a woman, the artist knows it is and this is her expression of female power.
