Texture and layering intrigue me. Implied is that there is something beneath the surface or hidden or embedded in the substance. Along with paint and pastels, I use wax, spackle, fabric, fibers, paper, and earthy colors, to create the sense that intimacy and mystery underlie an inconsistent, antiquated, and vulnerable surface that contradicts the appearance of the civil, more approachable veneer.
